The Uptown Entertainment & Development Corp
The Uptown Entertainment & Development Corp. (UEDC) is a community development corporation, incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1995, received its 501c3 tax-exempt status in 2002, and registered with Pennsylvania Bureau of Charitable Organizations since 2004. UEDC has identified the historic Uptown Theater, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as its first acquisition and revitalization project. Development plans include renovating the theater as an entertainment venue, creating a museum dedicated to preserving Black music, developing a technology center, and providing commercial leasing space in the proposed Entertainment and Education Tower.

UEDC also serves as a Registered Community Organization (RCO) for North Central Philadelphia (aka The Uptown Cultural District, Avenue of the Arts North, Harlem Quarter North) in conjunction with the City Planning Commission’s Citizen Planning Institute.
What is Our Mission?
To inform and empower the community through arts, culture, education, civic forums, economic development, and make referrals for supportive services.
Uptown Radio broadcasts information and music that inspires to uplift our community. With support from individuals, local business, charitable organizations, and others we are creating a platform for community voices to be heard on FM Radio. WJYN Uptown Radio broadcasts 3pm-3am on 98.5 FM. Uptown Radio is a catalyst for positive community transformation.
Who Are We?
WJYN 98.5 FM is a community-sponsored radio station under the ownership of the Uptown Entertainment and Development Corporation (UEDC), a non-profit organization. Our goal is to develop, produce and sustain quality programming with an emphasis on Philadelphia residents making connections with each other. Programming is geared to educate and inspire social change. The emphasis will be on North Central Philadelphia and its stories. Programming is designed to offer opportunities to produce and host shows by artists, activists, scholars, returning citizens, youth, and other social groups. Broadcasts will tell stories of life from North Central Philadelphia and surrounding communities. Uptown Radio is also a platform for world wide communities to have a voice on FM Radio.
